Berkeley Youth Alternatives

Berkeley Youth Alternatives (BYA) operates multiple employment-readiness and job training programs for youth and young adults ages 14-24. Participation in BYA’s Steps-2-Success programs prepares today’s youth and young adults to enter the workforce of tomorrow, equipped with the needed skills to transition into adulthood. BYA mandates that all participants adhere to high standards in their personal, academic, and workforce-related endeavors while receiving comprehensive support services that includes mental health counseling, one-one tutoring, securing drivers’ licenses/identification cards, GED preparation, emergency shelter, health education, and pregnancy prevention.
BYA stresses HIGHER EDUCATION for all participants, either in the form of community college, university matriculation and/or quality vocational training.

 

Richmond YouthWORKS

YouthWORKS is a program that provides case managed services to at-risk and in-risk youth that are 16 to 21.  Services are participation based and include: academic support, transportation assistance, cultural enrichment trips, life skills and pre-employment training.
The City of Richmond’s Youth has partnered with John Muir Charter School and Contra Costa Community College to bring a Career Technical Training Academy to our community. The Richmond Career Training Academy will serve Richmond and North Richmond youth, age 17 to 24, that have not completed their requirements for a high school diploma. The Academy will provide accredited high school education services, as well as employment skills and leadership training and provide the pre-enrollment requirements (and enrollment assistance) to participate in Contra Costa Community College’s career path degrees in the fields of Health, Hospitality and Green Hybrid Automotive.  It will also provide career path requirements to qualify for enrollment in the national award winning RichmondBUILD Green Construction training academy!
