On-the-Job Training

INTRODUCTION

The Oakland Private Industry Council, Inc. (PIC) is dedicated to providing no fee workforce development services to the Oakland community.  In partnership with Oakland WIB and EASTBAY Works, Oakland PIC administers the federally funded employment-related activities under the Workforce Investment Act.
 
ON-THE-JOB TRAINING

On-the-job training (OJT) provides employers with an incentive to gain skilled pre-screened employees.  Employers who hire and train individuals under an OJT may be reimbursed up to 50% of the new employees’ salaries during the training period agreed upon.  OJT candidates are qualified workers who only require some additional on-site training in order to learn the full range of their job duties.
 
BENEFITS

• Up to 50% of wages reimbursed for up to 3 months (based on individual contract) for a maximum of 520 hours of training or up to $4,000.
• Qualified, pre-screened candidates.
• No fee to employers or candidates.
• Personalized service from initial contact to completion of contract.
• Eliminates advertising expense and reduces recruitment time.

PROCESS

Contact the Oakland PIC when you have a job opening that can benefit from OJT.  We will assist you in developing a job description – including information about the training to be provided- and referring suitable candidates for your selection.  Once the candidate is chosen, the PIC will arrange a contract outlining both parties’ responsibilities.  Typically, OJT combines hands-on training with practical work experience.  After the contract’s duration is completed, the worker stays on as a regular employee with all benefits and considerations of other employees.
